Android 7.1.1 Nougat UpdatesFollowing a developer’s preview, the Android 7.1.1 is now available for Nexus and Pixel devices. The update brings a feature that has been on the Pixel since October to current Nexus and Android One devices, as well as the Pixel C also. App shortcuts provide quick access to key actions and are brought up by long pressing on the icon from anywhere in this launcher. Aboard-like features are finally making their way into Android with image keyboards that allow for GIF search and entries. Other features include new emoji, enhanced live wallpaper support, and better VR performance for user comfort.
With 7.1 available on the Pixel since October, many developers have already updated their apps to support the latest upgrading features. All of Google’s major services and quite a few third-party apps have shortcuts, while Google Keyboard has support for GIFs in Hangouts and Messenger type social networking application.
Since launch, Pixel users have encountered several bugs, including with Band 4 and several types of camera issues. Release notes from carriers like Verizon cite several specific bug fixes and “General connectivity improvements.” As already seen in an OTA that rolled out in Canada, two new Moves allow you to double-tap to check phone and lift to check up the phone.
This update also brings the December security patch that features fixes 40 vulnerabilities ranging from severe to moderate its performance.
