Nexus 7 Tips and Tricks
This is a Nexus 7 with no wireless support roaming around Google Maps
How do you do that? The ability to download Google maps has been around for a while now but the way to do it has changed slightly Obviously to download maps you will need a wireless connection But once you have one, find a map that is important to you; perhaps it might be your local area or a weekend destination And when you’ve found that map, simply type into the search box ‘ok maps’ and that will automatically trigger a download of the current section of the map in view When it’s complete, a message will be displayed on screen
So if I now turn off wireless, you can see that I can still happily roam around the centre of New York and zoom in and out with no problems what so ever Two things to consider when you do this: you can’t simply zoom out to a pie-in-the-sky view and download a massive section of maps (the program will warn you when you try to do this) and all these map downloads will take up storage space on your tablet So, if you need to remove it you will have to go to the application information screen for Google Maps and clear the cache So, take advantage of Google maps and store your favourite locations, just in case you need them when you’re out and about without access to the internet.
